Here are Things to Avoid Right After Getting Facial Fillers in Vancouver

Facial fillers are quickly becoming Vancouver’s favourite solution to fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is quick, relatively pain-free, and the results are almost immediate. That said, even though you can walk right out of your filler appointment and back into your regular routine without any downtime, it doesn’t mean you should disregard post-treatment care. In the 24 to 48 hours after your treatment, there are a few things you should avoid to ensure you end up with the best possible results.

Skip the Gym

Any type of strenuous exercise, the gym, yoga, or team sports should be avoided for 24 hours after getting facial fillers. Working out increases blood flow to the face which, after receiving cosmetic injectables, can increase the chances of experiencing redness, swelling, and bruising. Be strategic about when you book your facial filler appointment and pick a day that won’t interfere with your activity schedule.

Book an Early Appointment Time

It’s recommended to remain upright for as long as possible after your appointment to prevent the facial fillers from dispersing. The best option is to plan for an appointment earlier in the day that leaves plenty of time before bed; if that’s not possible, avoid sleeping flat on your back for the first night and instead position a few pillows to keep yourself in an elevated position.

Avoid the Temptation to Touch Your Face

The average person touches their face 23 times per hour. So while it would be unrealistic to not touch your face at all for 24 hours after getting your fillers, it is important to not massage, manipulate, or put pressure around the injection site. Rubbing or touching your face can irritate the skin, causing redness or swelling, while the bacteria from your hands could lead to an infection. You also run the risk of spreading the fillers from their very carefully selected areas to places they don’t belong, affecting your final results.

If you’ve received facial filers around received lip, cheek, or nasolabial folds it’s also best to avoid wearing glasses for at least 24 hours to avoid pressure on those areas.

No Makeup, Moisturizer, or Cleanser

For many of the same reasons that you shouldn’t touch or put pressure on your face immediately following a facial filler session, you should also avoid applying makeup or using cleansers and moisturizers. These products can introduce bacteria to sensitive areas and increase irritation. For the first day after your appointment, it’s best to skip your evening skincare routine and instead apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and soothe the skin. Once the 24-hour period has passed, you can gently ease back into your normal routine.

Steer Clear of Sun Exposure

Direct sun exposure is not a friend of facial fillers (or Vancouver!), at least not for the first 24 to 48 hours. UV rays can increase inflammation and swelling at the injection site and might even interfere with the healing process. If you have to be outside, use a hat or umbrella for protection and apply sunscreen once it’s safe to do so.

Don’t Make a Dental Appointment

Unless it’s an emergency situation, it’s best to schedule cosmetic or routine dental appointments at least 2 weeks after your facial fillers. Dental work puts pressure on common injection sites like the lips and could impact the filler placement. To get to most out of your precious lip fillers, give them time to fully settle.

By following these tips, you’ll give your fillers the best chance to settle properly, leaving you with smooth, natural-looking results you can enjoy for months to come.
